Denver Chapter: How to Help
Photo from US Department of Health and Human Services

The Denver AMIGOS volunteers are funded by contributions from community members, corporations, and foundations.  The cost to send each volunteer on their summer assignment is approximately $5,600. There are three components to raising funds to cover this cost:

1.  Chapter Fund Raising: The chapter as a group raises one half of the cost through citrus fruit sales, coffee sales and a letter writing campaign.

The coffee the volunteers will be selling this year comes from an AMIGOS project in Costa Rica.

2.  Volunteer's Fee:: The second half of the cost is paid in monthly payments of around $350 by the volunteer and their family.  These payments start in November.

3.  Scholarship Funds: Both the Denver Chapter and the AMIGOS International Office have scholarship funds available for volunteer's who may need financial assistance.

Additionally, you can help the Denver Chapter's volunteers by making a donation to the program. All donations are used to cover the costs of supplies and support staff while the volunteer is in country.

For example:

$25 Provides nails and roofing material for one storage shed in Honduras

$30 Provides supplies for a Lorena stove to replace (dangerous) open kitchen fires

$50 Provides 150 toothbrushes to aid dental hygiene in Brazil

$100 Provides the cement and other supplies necessary to construct 4 latrines

$150 Provides 100 fruit trees for family nutrition and reforestation

$500 Provides training materials for 20 volunteers
