Who Volunteers

The Volunteer's Year  Recruiting and Introduction Meetings: In September the Amigos veterens, parents and staff visit high schools in the Denver Metro area presenting information and recounting experiences about the Amigos program.  Interested high school students and their parents sign up for interviews.

Interviews: In late September and early October the volunteer candidates and their parents participate in group information session.  There are usually between seven and ten families at these sessions.  The parents and the canidates get more details about the program and the chapter staff answers any and all questions they may have. Also,  the candidate and the chapter's training director have a one-on-one interview in both English and Spanish.   This is a "low stress" interview!  The purpose is to get a sense of the candidate's level of Spanish proficiency and their understanding and agreement with the rules they must follow while in Latin America.

Candidate Selection: Once the interviews are complete the Denver Chapter Amigos Board selects the year's candidates.  The board members contact all candiates letting them know whether or not they will be participating in the comming year's program.

First Meetings: Late October are the first two meetings. The first meeting welcome's the volunteers and their families and provides them with the details of the Denver Chapter's primary fund raiser: Citrus Fruit Sales.  The second meeting is for the volunteers to get to know each other and the Amigos Veterens that are helping out for the year.

Fruit Sales: The volunteer and their family sell and deliver 100 20lb boxes of oranges, grapefruit or a mix of oranges and grapefruit.  This all happens between the end of October and early December.
